Land the Right Interviews—Crickets, Part 1 of 3
You’re on the hunt for your dream job. All you hear is ‘crickets.’ A conundrum, you’re highly qualified and a close fit for roles you’ve applied for, but you’ve received minimal invites. Or, you’re landing interviews but apathetic about lower-level roles, organizational limitations, and soft compensation.
Screening Out Terrific Candidates
Does your resume only talk about the stuff you do? Read like a job description? In a way this makes sense, showing the experience they’re seeking. Here is what’s happening during screening. And just so you know, I’ve been on the inside. Reviewers scan your resume for about 20 seconds if you’re lucky. They say, “This one look’s qualified,” “So does this one,” and “That one does, too.” Who should we interview? It’s easy to get screened out.
The Big 4 Deliverables
But if you share actions you’ve taken to solve problems, generate revenue, save costs, and innovate, their reaction is more likely, “Wow, we need to talk to this person and find out how they can bring these results to our organization.” Schedule it!
Sell, Sell, Sell Your Results
The truth is many of your competitors have similar accomplishments. Their resumes contains bullets on job content and read like a job description. They’ll put ‘meat on the bone’ in the interview, explaining why they qualify in person. Don’t be tempted to withhold. Write impactful information on your resume before you submit it.
